Together, Making History Again!

 

As a volunteer, you can help make Sail250® Virginia in Norfolk a success by being part of the event! This is a once in a lifetime
opportunity to make new friends, share your special skills, and welcome an international fleet of sailors to downtown Norfolk.
 
Please see the list below for some of the specific skills we need. If you are interested in volunteering, click the Volunteer Here button below to submit a Volunteer Interest Form. Interested volunteers are asked to apply no later than June 9, 2026. Volunteers will be contacted to schedule an interview to determine if they are a good fit for one of our volunteer positions based on experience, availability, and the needs of the event organizers. All volunteers must be able to pass a criminal background check.

We still need volunteers for the following areas:

The DISCOVERY DECK, located in the outdoor, covered pavilion on the backside of Nauticus, is perfect for lifelong learners of all ages, and will feature interactive displays & activities from community groups, schools, and businesses highlighting maritime, military, and international history. Volunteers are needed June 19-21, 11 am – 7 pm each day, as:

 

• Activity Zone Assistants – assist guests of all ages with hands-on activities and games.

• Discovery Deck Assistants – greet guests, hand out passports and prizes, assist with activities and entertainment scheduled in the DISCOVERY DECK.

• Escorts for History Alive Characters – escort and assist living history interpreters as they perform in various locations throughout the festival area, June 19-21, Noon – 6 pm daily.

Work with our LIAISON team to assist members of the visiting international fleet of ships:

• Crew Center Assistants – provide visiting sailors with general information, serve as a driver for visiting sailors/officers, act as a runner for communicating with ships as needed.

• Dockside Docent/Guides – assist in ensuring general safety on the docks, provide general information to public, assist in directing VIP and school tours.

• Translators/Liaisons – provide translating services as needed between ship crews/officers and event organizers. This may be as part of the ship liaison program, or during protocol events.
