Together, Making History Again!

 

As a volunteer, you can help make Sail250® Virginia in Norfolk a success by being part of the event! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make new friends, share your special skills, and welcome an international fleet of sailors to downtown Norfolk.

 

Please see the list below for some of the specific skills we need. If you are interested in volunteering, click the Volunteer Here button below to submit a Volunteer Interest Form. Interested volunteers are asked to submit an application no later than January 15, 2026. Volunteers will be contacted to schedule an interview to determine if they are a good fit for one of our volunteer positions based on experience, availability, and the needs of the event organizers. All volunteers must be able to pass a criminal background check.

 

Crew Center Assistants – provide visiting sailors with general information, serve as a driver for visiting sailors/officers, act as a runner for communicating with ships as needed.

 

Dockside Docent/Guides – assist in ensuring general safety on the docks, provide general information to public, assist in directing VIP and school tours.

 

Guest Relations Assistants - assists with providing the public with basic information about the Sail250® Virginia event during the festival at guest relations booths and as roving information guides. This is an ideal position for organizations looking to volunteer as a group.

 

Information Outreach Assistants - assists with advance distribution of marketing materials throughout the Hampton Roads area. This volunteer position requires a reliable vehicle and drivers license.

 

Soccer Tournament Volunteers – Assist with the fleet wide soccer tournament, including manning cooling stations, directing teams to fields, providing public with information, etc.

 

Ship Liaisons – facilitate communication between event organizers and the visiting ships. Help facilitate clear communication; trouble shoot minor issues and communicate daily schedule to ship’s officers. This position requires extensive time on-site between June 18-23, 2026.

 

Translators/Liaisons – provide translating services as needed between ship crews/officers and event organizers. This may be as part of the ship liaison program, or during protocol events.
